2015 roundup | Sneakers

After the roundup of favorite outfit shots earlier this week a series of 2015 sneakershots had to follow! I often get a bit sentimental at the end of the year.. don’t ask me why! (I’m a huge crybaby anyway). But this year it’s more of a positive sentimental mood. Because I’m really happy with the way 2015 treated me.

Some of my 2015 highlights:

  • 2015 was not just a year of major growth for the blog, but also for me as a person. I’ve made some choices for myself which turned out to be great choices and which made me MUCH happier. I feel better about myself, I’m more secure. I’m starting to learn what my strengths are instead of focussing on my weaknesses like I did before. For the first time in years I’m really looking forward to a new year and I know I’m gonna try my best to kick ass. Both personal and blog wise!
  • I still feel so thankful for the fact that I got to make my hobby/passion my work. I would love to make Girl on Kicks my full time job (maybe in 2016). When I started Girl on Kicks a little over 2 years ago I never thought this little blog of mine would become as big as it is now! I remember how scared I was to put my first post online, haha! I just needed something to trigger my creativity again as I was working in retail and I felt brain dead. If you would’ve told me back then that Girl on Kicks was going grow into a part time job I would’ve laughed and told you; ‘yeah whatever!’. I sometimes get messages from people asking me for tips about starting a blog etc. I tell them; ‘Just do it’. Find someone who supports you and pushes you to keep it up (a friend, your love, your parents). And do it from a passion and not because you want to make money or want free stuff, haha!
  • Earlier this year I got to organize the Womens area at Approved Sneakers Market. On The Block shop, Trash & Ready Nail art, 6 female collectors, 4 awesome female DJ’s and more. I loved organized and hosting the event and this is something I would def love to do again.
  • Quitting my job was probably the most scary thing I’ve ever done. I had never quit a job again before having a new one. But I started working freelance doing PR and Social Media and it is SO much fun. Working for 3 companies now and I’m learning more and more every day. Meeting new people and getting to use my network to help them is something I really love doing.
  • I met so many lovely and talented people through the blog. For examle; shooting editorials with Bubbles and Lucy and Rosan and Jordy. (pssst.. a new editorial will be on the blog in januari feat. me as the model.) launching a mixtape with bubbles which has over 16K plays (part II is on it’s way!). Shooting sneakers with Glackster. Interviewing Rod Runners, Jaimie van Heije, Saskia and Dian. Traveling to London for the blog twice this year (hoping I will have the chance to travel to London in 2016 even more #favcity).
  • Meeting Jordy aka my photographer. We shot ALOT of dope outfits and TSWM’s  and we’re always having so much fun. Learning from each other and helping each other out when needed! I will shoot his outfit for a change soon so you guys can ‘meet’ him. (Girls; he’s good looking AND single).
  • Starting making videos for the blog with the love. Next to shooting pictures for the blog he started exploring the world of video as well and he’s doing such a great job! Hoping we get to shoot alot of dope videos in 2016!
  • Being published in 3 different magazines and featured on a few online magazines. Getting interviewed for Sneakers magazine was def one of my highlights. It felt like I was getting recognition from the sneaker world and getting to talk about my style and my look on the female sneaker-community was so cool (thanks Piera)!
  • Working together with the big sportswear/sneaker brands/stores such as; adidas, ASICS, Size?, Fila, Hummel, Reebok, PUMA, Nike and more. I mean.. how cool is that?!
  • You visiting my blog! Maaaaajor highlight. Because, let’s be honest; all this didn’t happen if you guys weren’t visiting my blog and supporting Girl on Kicks on a daily base all of the above would not have happened! I’m hoping you guys will keep on following this little (sneaker-)journey of mine. And I have some tricks up my sleeve for 2016. More videos, a new website and much more!

Happy new year to all of you. I hope you’ll enjoy your NYE to the fullest with your friends, family and loved ones. And with loads of champagne and oliebollen (dutchies would know).

And I’m curious what your highlight of 2015 was, let me know in the comments! X
